Tetsuya Mizuguchi is known for creating video games that incorporate an emphasis on interactive sound design, evidenced by Rez, Lumines, and Child of Eden. He brings his creativity to the classic puzzle game created by Russian game designer Alexey Pajitnov. Tetris Effect looks incredibly mesmerizing as it brings the “most popular puzzle game ever made” into the modern era. The game draws inspiration from the phenomenon known as the Tetris effect, where after playing Tetris for a long period of time, players would continue to see falling Tetris blocks for some time after quitting the game. Mizuguchi said that the goal of the game was “to amplify and enhance that same magical feeling where you just can’t get it out of your head, and not just the falling shapes, but all the visuals, the sounds, the music”.
Tetris Effect is developed by Enhance Games, the company founded by Tetsuya Mizuguchi where he is also CEO. The game will be exclusive for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR when it launches later this year.
