Get ready to enter the Matrix again!
Warner Bros announced that a new Matrix movie is on the way. Lana Wachowski will writer and direct the next film in the popular sci-fi action franchise with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity respectively. Warner Bros and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the film. While this year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Matrix franchise, filming for the fourth film is slated to begin in 2020.
“We are could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana,” said Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros Picture Group. “Lana is a true visionary, a singular and original filmmaker and we are thrilled she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in the Matrix universe.”
Fans first took the red pill in 1999 with the release of the first Matrix film, which grossed over $460 million worldwide. Two sequels followed, 2003’s Matrix: Reloaded and Matrix: Revolutions, both were highly successful films and helped pushed the popularity of the franchise turning it into a cultural phenomenon. However, the third film, Matrix: Revolutions, left fans with more questions than answers.
Hopefully, that will be rectified.
