Deadpool takes over Japan, bumps “Detective Conan: Zero Enforcer” off #1 spot!!

Well, it has finally happened. Deadpool has taken over the Land of the Rising Sun. Ryan Reynolds action comedy film based on Marvel’s resident “Merc with the Mouth” earned 375 million yen on 239,000 admission over the weekend, which enough to bump the 22nd film in the Detective Conan series, ” Zero the Enforcer” of its high horse. Deadpool 2 was released in Japan on June 1, two weeks after the North America release, where it earning an amazing 536 million yen from its first three-day run from Friday through Sunday, which was 113% of that of the first film released in 2016. The 20th Century Fox film is expected to earn 2 billion judging from the result of these figures.

After an eight week reign, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer drops down to third place. It falls behind “50 First Kisses”, a Japanese film inspired by the 2004 American romantic comedy “50 First Dates” starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The 22nd film in the anime series is still the top grossing film in the franchise, raking in 7.8 billion yen (71 million US dollars), beating out “Avengers: Infinity War” in its opening weekend in Japan. Speaking of which, Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” has disintegrated from the Japan top ten movie list. However, it did become the top film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe making 3.62 million yen, just barely edging out above the first “Avengers” film which made 3.61 million in 2012.
