Hey, hey, how’s it going, J1 Fans! DevilDriver1313 here again and I came across something that’s gotten my curiosity piqued. According to a report from Hollywood Reporter, David Hayter, voice actor of Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series and X2 writer, will be involved in adapting American McGee’s Alice into a series. THR also reports that the franchise is now owed by Ted Field’s Radar Pictures.
American McGee first introduced gamers to his twisted version of Lewis Carroll’s beloved novels in 2000, followed by a sequel, Alice: Madness Returns in 2011. The games are a horrific take on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland that follows an emotionally traumatized Alice, whose family is killed in a house fire years before the story of the game takes place, who makes a mental retreat to Wonderland, which has been disfigured by her injured psyche.
David Hayter told THR that, “American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns game series is groundbreaking reimagining of the classic tale.” He also says that he is “beyond excited to bring this world of madness and wonder to a global audience.”
There is currently no cast or release date planned for the project. It could be either a retelling of the first two games or a rewrite of the unfinished sequel, Alice: Asylum to kickstart the project.
Even though the series has gone quiet over the last decade, I am excited for this and really hope it does come to fruition. It should be noted that this is not the first time that a twisted version of Alice in Wonderland has been sought after for a TV adaption. Lionsgate TV was going to adapt Zenescope’s Wonderland series for television in 2012. Alas, nothing has come to pass.
