At Anime Expo 2018 last month, Dark Horse announced that they would be publishing the English version of the horror sci-fi manga, Elfen Lied. Created by Lynn Okamoto, the 12-volume series will be released in four omnibus volumes, the first of which is planned for May 22, 2018. The manga inspired the anime series released by ADV Films in North America and Madman Entertainment in Australia in 2004.
The series is described as:
Elfen Lied takes place in Kamakura and Kanagawa, and focuses on the “Diclonius”, a newly mutated species. Their appearance is similar to humans, but with several differences, namely horn-like protrusions on the forehead and the presence of telekinetic invisible arms called “Vectors”. One such Diclonius, Lucy, is bred by the military to be the ultimate weapon. Now, with government killers on her trail, the disposition of a five year old, and a hair trigger for ultraviolence, Lucy and her young friends must unravel the dark secret of her legacy before it’s too late.
Elfen Lied manga has been released in German, Italian, Mexican, Portuguese, Taiwan and original Japanese. The series has yet to be released in English.
Sidenote: Lucy will be featured an upcoming episode of Screw Attack’s DEATH BATTLE!
