Cosplay Spotlight: Heza Chan

Bow to Heza Chan, our great newest COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I cosplay for fun! I love to create things and represent my favorite characters/series. It’s a way to let out my creativity while also meeting new people who are also into the hobby or who enjoy the same series and characters.

What was your first cosplay?

My first cosplay was Lime from Saber Marionette J. I love that character to pieces. When I watched the series I saw myself in her. I would love to remake the costume someday, however I have so many other costumes I want to do that I probably will never get around to it.

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

Yes! I make all of my own costumes. There is one costume though that was a collaborative effort between Jia*Jem and I, and that is our Puma Twins costumes. I made the bodysuits and styled the wigs, while she made all of the accessories and armor. The time it takes to make a costume depends on how many pieces there are to construct and how much detail the costume entails. Usually most of my costumes average about 40-70 hours total. I can usually complete a costume within a week or two depending on how much free time I have.

What is your favorite character to play?

That’s a hard question to answer considering I love them all, however if I had to pick one I’d say Komugi-chan. I’ve made several of her outfits~ I would love to make more since she has such a wide variety of costumes to choose from~

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

I mainly cosplay from Japanese animation because that is what I love the most! I’m a huge animation fan in general, but there is something about Japanese animation that has me hooked. I love the bright colors, the fluidity of the animation, and the character designs. I also love to cosplay from fighting games. They are my favorite video games to play!

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Never take on a big project when you’re first starting out. Start off small building your way up. You’ll save yourself from lots of headaches and empty wallets.

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

I’d say they are all difficult in their own way. However there are some characters I just click with more and I’m able to portray them in photos. I’m not too good at portraying serious characters as I am not a very serious person myself.
