“Carriage approaching!” an Eshtar knight called out. The two knight atop the gate to Eshtar City acknowledge him with a wave and then begin cranking the wheel. The carriage stops momentarily and waits while the massive and beautiful gates open. With a nod of his head and light snap of the reins, the driver continues through to the elegant city. The knights above wrench the wheel again to close the gates. They step to the other side of their high perch and watch the carriage roll to the city. Eshtar City is vast. In the center sits the capital. Beautiful buildings and intricate architecture make up the Kingdom of Eshtar. The castle is vaster than that of Arcana Castle. Eshtar Kingdom is a sophisticated society. They are well educated in various ways such as magic, science and the mystic arts. To either side of the Kingdom lay the bordering villages of the Steamists and the Alchemists. On the left is the Steamists village of Torresdale. Victorian style buildings outfitted with metal structures that make them look more mechanical, various antennae arrays and stove pipes are what distinguishes Torresdale Village. Nearly everything here has become steam powered when a geothermal well was discovered decades ago. Since then, the Steamists, who were once Alchemists, have harnessed that power and used it to create their steam-powered village and various weapons that fuse old traditional with new age. Opposite of them is the Village of Arendale, home of the Alchemists. Arendale has retained the Victorian architecture that it has been known for over the centuries. Subtle changes were made such as statues of the extinct gargoyles have come to roost on building tops as the creatures themselves once did long ago. This was done out of retaliation against the Steamists. Alchemy is an influential philosophical tradition whose early practitioners’ claims to profound powers were known from antiquity. The Alchemists hold strong to the ways of their ancestors. Those teachings are still a staple in their everyday lives. For years, Eshtar Kingdom has stood in the middle of this internal feud, serving as a battle ground for the Steamists who wish forgo the principles they once believed in to make way for the future and the Alchemists who still believe in the spirituality and religion set by their ancestors.
The carriage from Arcana rolls down the main avenue to Eshtar Castle. With a tug of the reins by the driver, the horses whinny lightly and stop. The footman hops down from the back, walks to the side of the carriage and opens the door. He gives a polite bow as Beatrice, Amanda and Tiphanee exit. They enter through the gate of Eshtar Castle and walk through the courtyard. Like Arcana, the courtyard is full of merchant carts from various regions. Amanda spots a cart bearing the familiar Red Star Crest of Arcana. The young ladies wave to her with big smiles. Amanda waves back in kind. Beatrice acknowledges them as well. They continued toward the gate of Eshtar Castle, greeting people and merchants alike. It has not been that long since Beatrice and Amanda were here last. Tiphanee is amazed at how recognizable they are.
Unknown to them, a woman had spotted them and begun to follow. She soundlessly approaches, closing in on Tiphanee. A wide grin draws across her face and she raises her hands. When they stop to at another cart from Arcana Kingdom, she quickly throws her arms around Tiphanee, startling her.
“Tee-hee! My, my, you’ve grown quite a bit,” she said with a giggle, gently squeezing Tiphanee’s bosom.
Beatrice and Amanda are taken aback by this. Who is this woman who would do something so lewd in public?
Tiphanee sighs and then smiles. “Hi Aunt Odetta,” she says.
Her aunt?! Beatrice and Amanda are stunned. They look at Odetta, who still has a hold on Tiphanee’s chest, over. She is dressed in a striped form fitting blouse that showed off her ample cleavage, a brown jacket, short black skirt, high black boots, and a top hat with a set of goggles resting on the brim. However, it is not her attire that is offsetting. The woman’s young face and silky light blonde hair suggests her age to be much too closer to Tiphanee rather than her parents.
Tiphanee, seeing the questionable looks on her superiors’ faces, decides to clear things up. But first, she has to get her excitable aunt under control. “Um, Aunt Odetta, we have guests. Would you mind?” she says politely, even though she does feel slightly embarrassed.
Odetta looks ahead of Tiphanee. It is then that she sees the statuesque blonde and the shorter almond haired girl. “Oh, I see. I’m embarrassing you in front of your friends, aren’t I?” she says with a giggle. She unhands Tiphanee’s chest and steps forward. To Beatrice and Amanda, Odetta looks even younger up close. The young aunt traces the women up and down with an unwavering gaze. Her eyes lay upon the tall blonde’s bosom. She marvels for a moment at them and then shifts her gaze to the shorter almond haired girl. She has a nice set as well, Odetta thought. Odetta looks Amanda in her face. And then Beatrice. They’re cute also. With a cheery smile, she says, “You two will do nicely. I really sure they’ll like you. I know I do.”
Beatrice and Amanda stood stunned, unsure of what to make of the woman’s odd behavior. Tiphanee drops her face in her hand. “Aunt Odetta, please,” she begged. She takes a breath to compose herself and introduces everyone. “Lady Beatrice. Lady Amanda. This is my aunt Odetta Knoxville.”
“Oh, ladies! My, my, you must be from the Regal District,” said Odetta.
“Actually, they’re knights from Arcana,” Tiphanee tells her.
“Yes, allow me to introduce First Lieutenant Amanda Blayke and High Captain Beatrice Ashcroft.”
Odetta looks at them a moment. Female knights? She has never heard of such a thing. “Oh my, I didn’t know women can get into knighthood,” she says innocently.
Tiphanee sighs and shakes her head. Her aunt has always been a scatter brain. She can be told something significant and moments later it is gone out of her head. Tiphanee expected Odetta to not remember no matter how many letters she sent to her. “Aunt Odetta, I sent you dozens of letters telling you all of this,” she said.
“Oh, all those were from you?” Odetta says absentmindedly. She pauses for a moment, deep in thought. “Guess I forgot to read them,” she says bluntly with a carefree smile. Tiphanee sighs and drops her head. Her aunt is truly a scatterbrain. Suddenly, she wrenched up from behind again, giving her a jolt. “But I’m really so glad to see you!” Odetta squeals excitedly, squeezing her niece’s bosom for emphasis, making Tiphanee yelp.
Just then, a well-dressed man with salt and pepper hair, curly mustache and beard wearing a bowler hat approaches them. “Stop harassing the poor girl, my dear. You’re going to bruise her,” he says with a smile and a laugh.
Odette looks at the man and says, ” Oh but it’s been so long since we’ve seen her. I just wanted to give her a good squeeze.”
The man laughs. “I know, my dear. But she has brought guests so we must be on our best behavior,” he says to Odette, speaking to her like a kindly grandfather.
“You’re right,” replied Odette.
Once her aunt lets go again, Tiphanee grabs hold of her chest and begins lightly massaging her bosom.
The man steps toward Tiffani and asks her if she was fine. “Yeah, I’m alright. But Aunt Odetta might’ve squeezed a little too hard,” she answers.
Odetta pouts. “Aww, I’m sorry sweetie.”
“You know how excited your aunt gets whenever she sees you,” chuckled the man.
Tiphanee also laughs, knowing this to be true. Odetta always becomes overly affectionate whenever she came to visit them in Eshtar. What has started out with simple cheek pinching has graduated into tight hugs and near constant groping. Tiphanee has grown used to this as well. She expects it but Odette’s affections still get the better of her.
“And who do we have here?” the man asks, looking at Beatrice and Amanda.
“High Captain Beatrice Ashcroft and first lieutenant Amanda Blayke, this is my uncle, Councilman Leopoldo Knoxville,” Tiphanee says.
“A Councilman? We were not told the Knoxville family was prestigious,” said Beatrice.
” I never would’ve guessed it, honestly,” added Amanda.
Leopoldo laughs and says, “I suppose if it’s difficult to tell considering how eccentric we can be.” Odetta giggles sheepishly at this.
“We mean no disrespect, councilman–” Beatrice started to apologize until councilman Knoxville cut her off.
“It’s quite alright. We can’t help who we are, now can we?” Leopoldo says with laughter.
Beatrice looks at Tiphanee. Seeing how she can accept her Aunt Odetta’s forward nature, not to mention her sister Tamirei who is known for being the Quiet Prude, she smiles and then replies, “Well, I suppose not.” For a moment, she recalls how prudish Willow can be.
“Well then, we have time before meeting begins. How about we get more acquainted?” Leopoldo suggests. He then looks at Tiphanee with warm eyes and says to her kindly, “And you can tell me all about your time in Arcana, my dear.”
Tiphnee responds with a nod. “Milady, Miss Blayke,” she beckoned them. Beatrice and Amanda look at each other and share a laugh. Then they follow the Knoxville family to a pub close by.
