“It is true that my sister Willow’s physical combat skills are non-existent. My father tried to train her and me after him. We both failed. Even Tamirei is better at physical combat than Willow. However, what my sister lacks in physical combat, she more than makes up for with mystical arts,” Beatrice says.
Willow steps back. The sound of her footstep catches her attention. She peers down at the ground to see that it is damp. Quickly scanning the carts, she sees the remnants of a recent rainfall. Willow scans the ground ahead of her. The feet of the undead merchant girls squish in the mud as they shuffle slowly toward her. Willow looks back up at the wall of corpses moving in. She stares the nearest one straight in its sunken eyes. She takes a stance and holds her arms to her sides. Her hands begin glowing with ethereal light.
“If your sister excels in mystic arts, why does she not rank as a knight?” Tiphanee asks.
“Because,” Beatrice starts. “A knight’s ranking is based upon their skills in sword play and other forms of weapons combat. Those who excel in mystic arts are ranked differently. Mystics’ rankings are novice, beginner, journeymen, master and High Mage. That’s why my sister doesn’t rank as a Knight. However, she does rank amongst the Mystics.”
“And your sister’s rank?” asks Tiphanee.
“Miss Willow can be flaky but despite this, she is a very strong beginner,” answered Amanda. Tiphanee stared at Amanda confused. “Don’t let the title fool you. Miss Willow has a natural knack for Mystic Arts. She is more advanced than she lets off.”
“Her magic abilities rank among the Journeyman but she lacks discipline. So she refrains from using her magic. But when the situation arises,” Beatrice pauses. She recalls a time when she saw just how truly powerful Willow can be. “She can be a force to reckon with.”
Willow holds one hand toward the nearest walking corpses which have drawn closer. Piercing them with her gaze, she slowly glides her hand to one side and quickly slashes it in the opposite direction. The heads of the nearest row of undead explode from their bodies. Holding her other hand out, she gathers the surrounding water from a previous rainfall and forms it into a sphere. This is how she destroyed the heads of the nearest living corpses. Willow formed one small sphere of water and sent it through each corpses’ cranium. The bodies drop to the ground, convulsing for a few moments before ceasing. She waits for a moment after the last corpse falls. Willow quickly scans the area. There is no sound of shuffling feet or hollow death moans. The sound of gunfire catches her attention. Willow rushes off to help her partner.
Ecks takes aim and fires another shot from Grace in his left hand. He then fires a blast from Glory in his right hand. The corpses drop to the ground with heavy thuds. Dropping low to avoid the gnarly talons, Ecks blasts the corpse’s legs away, twirls Glory with a flick of his wrist and sends its head to join its lower appendages. Hearing a groan approaching from behind, Ecks whips out a kick and silences it. He continues his rotation, aims Grace, and drops several corpses with Scatter Shot. Glory follows her sister gun and returns more of the undead to oblivion. One corpse grabs Ecks around the shoulders. He wiggles, twists his body and whips the thing to the ground, and plants his heel into its cranium. Quickly, Ecks lays down another corpse when it tries to sink its rotten teeth into his left arm. However, his other arm is clenched tightly by withered hands. Ecks has no time to react as he is yanked towards the corpse’s gaping mouth.
The red headed corpse halts just as it pulled Ecks into range of its mouth. It gargles as water surrounds its head. Ecks uses this moment to get his footing and kicks the thing away just as its head is crushed. He turns behind him to see several more undead girls with their heads wrapped in aquatic spheres. The lifeless bodies drop to the ground once the heads are destroyed. Ecks smiles. It’s not surprise to him who the water manipulator is. “It’s about time you came back. I almost thought you were zombie chow,” he said with his narcissist charm.
Willow steps onto the battle field from the town of decrepit merchant carts. She holds out one hand wrapped in ethereal light. Globs of water fly toward her where she collects them into an orb that hovers above her upturned palm. “Well someone has to save your butt,” she says.
“And someone needs to cover yours, which might be a challenge in itself,” Ecks teases.
“Well my butt and I can just leave and you can have fun with your girlfriends,” Willow shot back.
“They’re not my type. I like my girls a little more lively,” Ecks said with his usual flare. “However, you might be more their type. I hear the undead like ‘em meaty.”
Almost on cue, Willow hears the familiar hollow moan. She grabs the creature by its arm and tosses it to the ground. With her other hand, she sends the water orb into the dead girl’s head and destroys it. She then gathers the water again into another orb. “Okay, I think it’s time for us to get out of here,” she adds, looking at the eye ball floating in her water orb.
“Yeah, I thought about that,” Ecks said before casually dispatching two undead maidens when they lunged for him. “How about we show these girls a good time?” Without looking, he flips Grace onto his right shoulder and fires a shot down the throat of an undead approaching from behind him.
Willow explodes the heads of several dead girls. “Like we did with the goblins in Stohess?” she says as she drops another headless body to the ground.
After taking out a corpse to his left and his right, Ecks chuckles. “Exactly,” he replies.
