And the next Batman is…wait, what?!

Yep ladies and gentleman, we have our next Batman. Warner Bros. has made a decision. It’s (drum roll please) …Ben Affleck. (Even the crickets are quiet) Yep, Benny-boy is the next man to don the cape and cowl. He’s already taken a shot at Daredevil so why not Bats? …(Again, silent crickets)… But seriously, Ben is a great actor and has had some pretty good roles. Warner Bros. was looking for an older Batman and they found one. Affleck and Warner Bros. have enjoyed quite the relationship over the last few years. The 41-year-old actor starred in and directed both “The Town” and “Argo” for the studio; that latter film, of course, won Best Picture at the Oscars in February, this despite Affleck being snubbed in the Best Director category. In an ironic twist, Affleck portrayed George Reeves, the first actor to play the Man of Steel, in the 2006 movie “Hollywoodland.” So this may not be a far stretch.

On a side note, I’m not gonna judge (too late!) just yet. I ahd the same feelings when I learned about Nicholas Cage playing in “Ghost Rider”. I was wary about it until I saw the film which turned out pretty good. Sadly, the second one did not. They only thing I’m afraid of is another takedown of the Dark Knight that was “Batman and Robin” with George Clooney in the role. It’s a shame Christian Bale bowed out. I liked him in the role despite his gravely voiced Batman. Hopefully, Ben can pull it off. Guess we’ll find out in a couple years.

Ben Affleck is Batman! What do you think about that?

But Kaneda’s a teenager?! They were going to make the characters older?! Thank god that got scrapped. Otherwise they would’ve pissed off the anime community as a whole. Some anime should not be live action. Blood: The Last Vampire is a rarity amongst good anime adapted into live action.

Yeah…that was going to happen. Thankfully – THANKFULLY – the movie got scrapped not too long after Keanu Reeves said no.

      1. BrianM

Because Keanu knew better. Why kill his career after making a name for himself in the Matrix series.

At the same time people were against Michael Keaton as Batman and Heath Ledger as the Joker… boy were they wrong.

    1. BrianM

Exactly! The big complaint was his height. But that didn’t matter, he was a dang good Batman. And Heath was killer (no pun) as the Joker. For a while, Jack Nicholson was the best live action Joker until Ledger got the role. Perhaps history can repeat itself.

Okay Warner Brothers I have something really important to ask. ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MINDS DID YOU NOT SEE THE DEBAUCHERY THAT WAS THE DAREDEVIL MOVIE (btw thx Kevin Smith for getting him that job) ARE YOU PEOPLE TRYING TO GET ME TO STOP WATCHING BATMAN MOVIES COME ON GUYS FIRST KILMER AND CLOONEY IN THE SCHUMAKER NEON GOTHAM DEBACLE THEN BALEMAN NOW BENMAN GRRRR

    1. BrianM

I agree that Schumaker nearly killed the franchise but Kilmer was slightly better than Clooney. Batman and Robin was complete crap and so was everyone in it. However, Bat-fans were upset about Keaton filling the role because of his height. He turned out to be awesome in the role. Heath Ledger, nobody wanted him as the Joker. Look what happened! Not saying that Warner Bros. made a right or wrong move but stranger sh!t has happened.

Wow…Warner Bros. must be blind as a bat if they think this is going to fly.

I dunno about this one Brian…truthfully, I wanna agree with you and a part of me does, but still…this is the same guy who played Daredevil and we saw how that movie turned out. So who knows…

Let’s move past Daredevil. Ok, it wasn’t good but it wasn’t overly terrible like Dragonball Evolution or Legend of Chun-Li. Like I said before, stranger sh!t has happened. Let’s see what transpires in the sneak peek trailers due to come late next year.

Hey…honestly, I’m up in the air with it. There’s a 50/50 chance that Affleck will do a good job as Bruce Wayne, or fail at the role. Granted, all the meme’s got me tired of hearing it, but I think that I’ll be interested in seeing how this happens. Sometimes, Hollywood manages to surprise us in a good way, such as Heath Ledger being the Joker and cancelling the Akira movie.

Same deal here. Ben had some pretty decent roles and he did well in them. So, like I said, we’ll just have–hold up, they were going to do an Akira movie?!

          1. RayR

Yes…and they were originally going to cast Keanu Reeves as Kaneda.
