EA has just announced today that it will be putting an end to its Online Pass program. If you’re unfamiliar with the Online Pass program, it’s what allows you to play online in the newer EA titles and access other online features. The pass is only used for one time, so if your system crashed and you bought a new system, you were unable to play online with the game until you purchased a new pass.
The main reason for EA stopping this program was due to ill reception that players received. The CEO of EA Games stated that it was initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online services and content but many players didn’t respond to the format. He also went to say that they’ve listened to the feedback and are doing away with the idea altogether.
So from here on out, EA titles (past, present, and future titles) won’t have the Online pass with them.
