It’s good to be Queen…or is it? Once Upon a Time S2 Ep20 Recap!!

*WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!*

From first season to now, Regina has been the Evil Queen. Unremorseful, uncaring, cruel, heartless, she has terrorized the people of the Enchanted Forest all in her effort to kill Snow White. But what she doesn’t know is how the people view her. She disguises herself, ventures into the village and learns just how cruel the people whom she is trying to get to love her. However, their loyalty is to Snow White. To them, Regina is a mockery of a queen. Probably wouldn’t be so bad if she was a little nicer. Her experience continues further when she is captured by her own soldiers and nearly executed before she is rescued by someone she never expected—Snow White. For the first time, Regina was on the receiving end of kindness and seemed ready for a change after hearing Snow white’s story but this doesn’t go well as they happen upon the villagers she killed. What a shame. Snow was ready to give Regina a chance at redemption only to be immediately denied it.

The scenario coincides with her life in Storybrooke as Mary Margaret/Snow White is willing to give Regina the chance to return to the Enchanted Forest or live her life in this world. However, Regina would be imprisoned if she returned to their world. So she decides to take matters into her own hands and be rid of everyone once and for all except for the one person she truly does love—Henry. She tells him about the failsafe in the curse that will remove Storybrooke from our world—at the cost of everyone’s lives. This upsets Henry but Regina solves the problem by erasing his memory of their conversation. Regina’s goal has always been to get Henry to love her. She’ll make him if she has to. This is in tune with her situation with the villagers in the Enchanted Forest. In audience with Rumplestiltskin, she tells him that she will get the villagers to like and respect her just as they do with Snow White. Obviously, this will not happen without her using magic. Therefore, she figures if she kills Snow White the people with have no choice but to accept her as their queen. The same she believes for Henry. If she removes Emma and Mary Margaret then Henry will have no recourse but to love her. Unfortunately with both situations, the result is the same—no matter what she does, neither Henry nor the villagers will ever appreciate her.

One more scenario that plays out in both worlds is Regina being rendered powerless and captured. In the Fairytale World, Regina has a shape shifting spell placed on her by Rumplestiltskin. Because of this, she loses her magic powers and is unable to fight back as her own men carry her off. After returning to the library upstairs, Regina is met by Hook, who has apparently gotten over on Maleficent, along with Greg and Tamara. She tries to use magic but discovers she is not able to do so. Greg tells her that he has created a device that blocks her powers. The device was given to her by Hook who told her that it was a bracelet belonging to Cora. Without her powers, Regina is at the mercy of Greg and Tamara who have intentions much darker than she could ever muster. I have had my suspicions of Greg and Tamara since they were first introduced. It would be interesting to see what they have in store for the citizens of Storybrooke. Hopefully, August’s warning has come too late.
