Horror manga master Kazuo Umezu reveals first new work in 27 years!!

Known for his nightmare fueling works such as The Drifting Classroom, Makoto-Chan, and Fasting to name a few, Kazuo Umezu took to his official website over the weekend to reveal that he has been working on new material for the past four years that will be released in 2022. This is his first new work in 27 years since his retirement in 1995. Not much in known about the new manga, but Umezu shared his excitement, saying, “It is an incredible work, and once you get your first glance at it you won’t be able to escape!!”

Kazuo Umezu made his directorial debut with the film Mother, an autobiographical feature that opened in 2014 in Japan. A few years later, he would be awarded Commissioner of Cultural Affairs Award by Japan’s Agency of Cultural Affairs in 2019, which is given to “individuals who have made distinguished accomplishment in artistic and cultural activities.”

It would be interesting to see what the famed artist has been cooking up for the past few years.
