Slip into that pink tutu and grab your talking butts! After more than 25 years, we will finally be getting a worthy sequel to the Ace Ventura franchise. In an interview with Park Circus, Morgan Creek, the company behind the first films that starred Jim Carrey, revealed the new film will handled by Sonic the Hedgehog writers Pat Casey and Josh Mill with Amazon Studios.
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective hit theaters 27 years ago in February 1994 which helped launch Jim Carrey’s career. Following commercial success, it was followed by Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls in 1995, with Carrey returning as the animal loving detective. The franchise also spawned two non-Jim Carrey fronted series, the animated series Ace Ventura: Pet Detective aired for three season from 1995 – 2000 and later, a standalone made-for-television sequel Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective aired on Cartoon Network in 2009. Currently, there is no word as to whether Carrey will return to the role. His most recent role is as Dr. Robotnik in 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog film, which he will reprise for the sequel film currently in production.
It would be interesting to see what Ace has been up to after 26 years out of the spotlight. Could he have stopped an illegal trading of exotic animals? Perhaps. Show up on a crab fishing boat? Yup. Did he help find Lady Gaga’s missing dogs? Heck, why not. What ever direction the film goes, fans new and old will be glad to see Ace Ventura’s slick driving skills, slick detective work and slick hair back on the big screen.
