The ball is rolling on the sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Director Jeff Fowler with be back in the director’s chair for the follow up to the 2020 hit film based on Sega’s beloved speedy mascot. Scriptwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller will also be returning. Paramount Pictures revealed the film’s logo last month the featured an orange two with twin tails hanging off the end. A sequel film was made possible when Miles “Tails” Prower appeared in a mid credits scene having arrived on Earth in search of Sonic.
Jeff Fowler posted an image of the director’s chair with the film’s logo on Monday.
The original film earned US$70,002,074 to rank #1 over its Presidents’ Day holiday opening weekend in the U.S. in February 2020. The film debuted digitally on March 2020, and shipped on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in May 2020. It earned over $146 million in the US, over taking Detective Pikachu (which earned $144 million) as the number one film based on a video game in the United States. Sonic earned $314 million worldwide.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is planned for release April 8, 2022.
