Hey, what’s up, J1sters!
We are encroaching ever closer to the Spring premiere of the anime adaption of Mars Red, the stage reading by Bunj-O Fugisawa about vampires in the 1920s. Keeping with the time and theme, hybrid traditional J-Rock group WagakkiBand will be performing the opening theme “Aria of Life.” The group, so named for using traditional Japanese instruments or “wagakki” along with modern day instruments. They first came to fame with their covers of Vocaloid songs. They have been performing original song in recent years.
WagakkiBand vocalist Yuuko Suzuhana says the band was excited to write and perform the song, as all the members are anime fans. Guitarist Machiya adds that the theme song “Aria of Life” has the trademark WagakkiBand sound and that they have pulled inspiration from the story and era of Mars Red.

Set in the 1923, Mars Red tells the story of a growing vampire population and the government agency known as “Code Red” created to keep their numbers in check. What better way to hunt down vampires than with vampires. Created by Lieutenant General Nakajima, this unit has historically been in the business of information war, but has been re-assigned to solve the vampire crisis.
Code Zero’s members include: Yoshinobu Maeda – Captain of Code Zero and the “most powerful human”, Shutaro Kurusu – A-class vampire and rookie on the squad, Tokuichi Yamagami – Smart vampire, not currently ranked, Suwa – A veteran vampire since the Edo era, and Takeuchi – D-class vampire and mad scientist with an immortal brain.
It’s up to Code Zero and the S-class vampire Deffrot to investigate this increase and put a stop to it before society crumbles.
Mars Red will premiere in April and simulcast by Funimation who is also producing the series.
