After much delay and setbacks, the final film in the Evangelion movie series will finally hit Japanese theaters. Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time will bring the final impact on January 23, 2021. The film was delayed from its June 2020 date due to the pandemic.
The Rebirth of Evangelion series began with the first movie, Evangelion 1.0: You are (Not) Alone in 2007, which saw a reimaging of the widely popular TV anime series. The second film, Evangelion 2.0: You can (Not) Advance released in 2009. This film diviated from its TV anime roots, setting up for a new story to be created by Hideko Anno for 2012’s Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo. Evangelion 3.0+1.0 was teased at the end of the film and planned for release in 2015 but was delayed by Anno himself due to his involvement with the Shin Godzilla film and his own mental health. In early October, Khara announced that the film won’t be six hours long.
