Avatar sequel resumes production amid COVID19, producer teases plot details!!

Comicbook.com recently reported that the long awaited sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 epic film, Avatar, will resume production after being shutdown due to the threat of COVID19. It has been more than a decade since the first film and details of the second film have been scarce during that time. Producer Jon Landau, in a recent interview, has begun to shed some light on the next Avatar film’s plotline.

Landau told RNZ that the 2021 sequel will focus on Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri who must abandon their home with their family and explore other regions on Pandora. James Cameron already confirmed that the water ecosystems of Pandora will be the focus of the film.

Avatar 2 will see the return the original cast including Giovanni Ribisi, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald. New cast members include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, David Thewlis, Vin Diesel, and CJ Jones.

Avatar was released in 2009 and had become the highest grossing film of all time, grossing $2.79 billion until 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which grossed $2.798 billion.
