What is up, Gamers and Gamettes! You’re “On the NXT LVL” with me, DevilDriver1313 and here’s a bit of gaming news. Following the success of the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon remakes, Activision is bringing back another classic title from the heydays of the PlayStation 2. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series revolutionize gaming by giving an underground sport the spotlight, from “pro” titles by Activision for surfing, BMX to the SSX series and rivals EA’s Skate. However, this is not the first time that Activision has tried to revive the series. They had worked before with Robomodo and gave gamers Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD in 2012 and followed up with Pro Skater 5. Both games were not well received by players and critics with the latter being dubbed the “Worst Game of the Year” for 2015.
Fast forward five years, Activision is giving it another go, this time with Vicarious Visions, the studio behind the successful Crash Bandicoot remakes. Just as they have done with Crash, they are retaining the core elements of the game while bringing new innovations to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remakes. All the original skaters return in the new updated games using their current likenesses including Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, Bob Burnquist, Elissa Steamer, Steve Caballero, Andrew Reynolds, Geoff Rowley, Kareem Campbell, Chad Muska, and more. Pro Skater 2 offered Spider-Man as a secret skater. Vicarious Vision have not commented directly on this subject, saying that we’ll have to wait and see what the secrets will be. Activison plans the have Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 Remaster available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Mac on September 4, 2020.
Until next time, I’ll see you “On the NXT LVL!!”
