As if there was any doubt. Square Enix reported that their highly anticipated title Final Fantasy VII Remake has surpassed 3.5 million in the first three days of its release, according to global sales. It is not surprising considering that the fan base is strong and has been waiting for this game for nearly a decade since it was rumored back in 2010. Digital sales of the Remake contributed largely to its success. While the numbers have yet to be broken down at this time, Square Enix has said, “the game has achieved exceptional digital sales, which are continuing to increase.”
To compare, God of War sold 3.1 million in its first three days when it was launched April 20, 2018. It went on to sell 5 million copies by the end of the month and over 10 million by May 2019. If it keeps the same pace, Final Fantasy VII Remake could be well on its way to joining the PS4 elite of top selling titles along with God of War (10 million+), Horizon Zero Dawn (10 million+), Spider-Man (13 million+) and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (15 million+)
