Gamers, anime fans, what is happening! Have I got news for all of you who fell in love with Demon Slayer. Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump revealed in their 16th issue that Aniplex will be working on a PS4 video game adaption of the highly popular manga series with plans to release in 2021. They have created a website for the game. The magazine does tease that players will take on the role of Tanjiro Kamado. However you do not have to wait until next year to play as your favorite Demon Slayer characters. Aniplex has a mobile game in the works titled Kimetsu no Yaiba: Keppu Kengeki Royale, will be available this year on iOS and Android smartphones, though there was no mention of which phones will be supported. The game pits characters from the series against each other in a “battle royale” scenario, with two teams of demons and demon slayers fight it out in various settings from the manga and TV anime series. Both games will be published by Aniplex with Ufotable and Shueisha as producers.
Demon Slayer began publication in February 2016. Viz Media is publishing the manga in English with 19 tankōbon volumes as of February 2020. The series inspired an anime produced by Ufotable that aired from April 6 to September 28, 2019 in Japan. A sequel film was revealed in the final episode and is scheduled for 2020.
In February 2020, the franchise recorded over 40.3 million copies sold, including digital versions, making it one of the best-selling manga series. Meanwhile, the anime series has received many awards and is considered to be among the best of the decade.
