The DigiDestined are back for a new adventure!! (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Bandai Namco’s press release confirms that this is reboot of the Digimon franchise. Series set to premiere on Fuji TV and other channel in Japan in April, and will air on Sundays at 9 a.m. An new trading card game will also launch in the Spring.

Good news everyone! The official website for Digimon Adventure has announced that Tai and the rest of the DigiDestined are coming back in an all new series. Digimon Adventure: will now follow Tai as a fifth grader and Agumon in 2020 Tokyo. Notice that there is a “colon” at the end of the title to denote from previous entries in the series. It is not yet known whether the new series is a reboot of the original series or set in an alternate universe, making them different from the kids featured in the upcoming movie Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. The website for Digimon from Toei Animation posted a visual showing the new character designs along with a synopsis of the story.

The main character is Taichi Yagami, a fifth-grader living in a tower apartment near Tokyo.

A mysterious phenomenon overtakes the “DigiDestined,” transporting Taichi to the digital world! The children meet their partner Digimon and embark on an unknown “adventure!”

Digimon Adventure: is set to premiere April 2020.

The anime film, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, will open in Japan on February 21. Fathom Events and Toei Animation will screen the movie in the US on March 25. The film features Taichi and the rest of the DigiDestined as young adults.
