HBO Max plans to develop Blue Beetle series

DC Comics hero Blue Beetle has surged in popularity in recent years. He has appeared in Justice League, Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Young Justice. He even had a cameo in Batman and Harley Quinn. With the streaming wars heating up, HBO Max has to do something if they want to fight of streaming giants Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu, and newcomers Disney+ and Apple TV. HBO is looking to adapt the Jaime Reyes version of the character to connect with a young audience, as well as draw in fans of the aquamarine colored hero.

Two years ago, The Wrap reported that Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer was working on a script for a Blue Beetle movie with Jaime Reyes at the center of it. He has also penned a Scarface reboot to Universal. There is no word yet on when Blue Beetle will make his live action debut.
