Break out the Master Code and get ready to game like it’s 1989!
Following the recent release of the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, Konami follows up by reviving another classic series from their library. The Contra Anniversary collection brings back the classic side-scrolling shoot ’em up for a new generation of gamers and give older gamers a bit of nostalgia from their early years. The collection will contain varied titles from the original arcade game to Contra III: The Alien Wars, as well as Japanese exclusive titles. The list of games includes:
Super Contra (Arcade)
Super C (NES)
Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES)
Super Probotector: Alien Rebels (SNES)
Contra: Hard Corps (Sega Genesis)
Probotector (Sega Mega Drive)
Operation C (Game Boy)
Four of these game have already been revealed in the lineup. The new additions give players a wide variety of Contra titles to choose from. Contra: Hard Corps is the first game in the series that allowed you to select four characters, and it was primarily side-scrolling versus other titles in the series that featured an overhead view in certain stages. It is the first to Contra: Hard Corps is being re-released since the Sega Genesis. Operation C gave us an introduction to the homing missile upgrade which resurfaced in Contra III: The Alien Wars. The last Contra game to be released by Konami was Hard Corps: Uprising in 2011 for Xbox Arcade Live and PlayStation Network. It was the first title to not bear the “Contra” brand name and served as a prequel to the original title.
While there is no specific release date as of now for the Contra Anniversary Collection, the digital collection will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam this Summer.
