Well, a dark cloud hangs overhead, and no, somebody did not summon Shenron. Though that would not be a bad idea right now. But according to a report from THR, Netflix is working on a sequel to their 2017 adaption of Death Note, the supernatural Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The film was obviously not well received be fans of the popular manga and anime and has been compared to other American adaption anime film failures. THR broke down Netflix’s blockbuster lineup of films which led to this reveal,
“Among properties it already owns, Netflix is developing a sequel to 2017’s horror-thriller Death Note, which Sarandos has called ‘sizable’ success, with Greg Russo writing the script.”
Currently, there is no confirmation whether director Adam Wingard will return for the sequel and the same goes for the cast consisting of Nat Wolff as Light Turner, Lakeith Stanfield as Light’s nemesis “L”, and Willem Dafoe as ithe voice of Ryuk, the owner of the Death Note that Light holds. Oddly enough, In an interview with Heat Vision, director Adam Wingard stated that Netflix has wanted to make at least two films, if enough people watch the first one. He said: “There are definitely lots of places to go, and we know generally where we would take it. Hopefully people will watch it and Netflix will order a sequel. They definitely are ready to. They just need people to watch it.”
Well, apparently that much has happened.
