A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (two years ago) some fans were bothered with the pacing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens because to them it [SW:TFA] was in their eyes, beat-for-beat Star Wars: A New Hope. This time it can be said that this is not the case. Thanks to director Rian Johnson known for movies such as Looper, and Brick, he was able to make The Last Jedi feel not only different from every other Star Wars film, but familiar at the same time. Now yes, it’s a long movie, but you won’t even feel it because there are so many different plots going on.

The one downside to so many plots is that one of the acts will definitely take a back seat to the overall story, and we have such a story arc that presents itself midway through the film. It was fun but completely unnecessary. As a whole, The Last Jedi has so much going on, that you will most definitely need to watch it a second time. Not a big problem because there are more seriously shocking, jaw-dropping moments in this one movie than almost every Star Wars movie combined!

The Last Jedi set pieces are spectacular, and of course John Williams’ musical masterpieces accompany the stunning visuals to tell a story that shows that they are on the right track. Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, and the rest of the cast hold down excellent performances with the action standing strong whether it’s a space battle, a shoot out with some blasters, or a one-on-one face-off. Don’t worry the cute critters seen in the trailers that look like space guinea pigs are adorable but in no way annoying. By the way, if you didn’t know the creatures are known as Porgs. All that to say, this is very much a welcome edition to the Star Wars legacy. 4/5
