Eagles coach Andy Reid’s eldest son, Garret, found dead

Garret Reid, son of Phildelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid, was found dead this morning in a dorm room at Lehigh University. The Chief of Police of the University confirmed Garret’s death after a 911 call was placed earlier. Andy Reid going through a walkthrough practice with the Eagles when he received word of his son’s death. General Manager Howie Roseman stated at a press conference, “He’s been strong for us. We’re going to be strong for him right now.” No word yet on the cause of Garret’s death but Lehigh University Chief of Police Edward Schupp does not suspect foul play.

A coroner’s investigation is underway.

Garret Reid has always had a troubled past. He and his brother Britt were involved in two serperate automobile incidents in 2007. Britt was arrested on weapons charges. Five hours after his brother road rage incident, Garret ran a red light and slammed the 2004 Jeep Liberty he was driving into a ’97 Ford Taurus at an intersection in Plymouth Township, seriously injuring 55-year-old Louise Hartman. She had to be removed from her car with the Jaws of Life and was admitted to a nearby hospital with head and back injuries. Garrett Reid later admitted to police that he had used heroin prior to the accident and authorities recovered syringes with heroin and testosterone as well as amphetamines, pain killers and anti-depressants from the Jeep. When Garret surrendered, prison guards found 89 perscription pills in his rectum.
