The news may’ve been out for awhile but I just recently came something promising. Capcom developer Yoshinori Ono has said at a Comic-Con in 2011 that “Darkstalkers is not dead”. He recently announced that he is working on a new game for the series using a modified version of the Street Fighter x Tekken engine. The game has been in the works since last year. Right now, there is no new info on this. According to shoryuken.com, Ono is out and there is a search for a new developer, putting the project on hold. That’s where reports on the possible new Darkstalkers end.
Quite frankly, if Capcom wants re-establish itself then they need to get on the ball and start reviving past series. Ok, they brought back Street Fighter after a decade long hiatus and since the release of SFIV, it’s been nothing but riding Ryu’s coat tails through three versions of the same game, two versions of a cross-over and, so far, one version of the latest cross-over. Don’t get me wrong, SF is an awesome fighting game but we can only run on the fuel of Hadokens and Shoryukens for so long.
Megaman has already been laid to rest. Hopefully Capcom learned their lesson after cancelling Megaman Legends 3 and don’t raise our hopes and smash our dreams to pieces.
*Update*
An anonymnous e-mail was sent to hadoken.net regarding Darkstalkers 4:
Regarding Darkstalkers 4:
– The Japanese name is Vampire Resurrection. The Western release will be titled Darkstalkers 4: Vampire Resurrection.
– It is in development, but it is still early on. It will be running on a modified SFxT engine. Don’t expect to see so much as a trailer for a few months at least, and no gameplay for a few months after that.
– The only characters I know will be returning (as of now, it could still change) are Morrigan, Felicia, Hsien-ko, Demitri and B.B. Hood. The only new character I am aware of is apparently a human Dark Hunter named Will who wields two shotguns, and fights mainly by striking with them, but can also shoot.
– It is being developed for PS3 and Vita only at the moment, but that could change in the future.
The source is uncomfirmed. Hopefully, this means something and hopefully it’s not a hoax.
